Required License for Charter
I am always asked if the Israeli boatman's license (class 30 or 60) is accepted in all countries? The answer to this is not simple because the Israeli licenses, despite being signatories to the STCW Convention, do not meet the defined standard and are not the same as the licenses issued under the Convention. Most charter companies in Greece, Croatia, Slovenia and Thailand will accept the Israeli boatman's license (class 30) without problems, but in other countries around the world we recommend that you verify this with the sailing club where you are going to rent the yacht. Some will accept your license without problems, some will require proof that you have experience and in some countries will require GMDSS certificates.
The complete information on which country accepts which license can be found on the country pages (Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, the Balearic Islands, the Caribbean Islands or Malta).
A tip from a skipper to a skipper: Always have the charter company you rented the boat from sign a sea time sheet (Israeli, European or American) or your seaman's card. This way you can prove to the rental company that you have experience.
